Beyond Resilient Girls
Beyond Resilient Girls is part of a three-year collaboration with the Essex County Community Foundation’s Women’s Fund, known as the Resilient Girls Project. Beyond Soccer is proud to be one of only five girl-serving organizations selected to participate. This project brings together national and local partners to evaluate and strengthen the impact of programs serving girls in Essex County.
Through partnerships with the Center for Healing and Justice Through Sport (CHJS) and the Youth, Media & Wellbeing Research Lab at the Wellesley Centers for Women, Beyond Soccer is measuring and improving how soccer can build girls’ resilience, leadership, and long-term engagement in sport.
Why Beyond Resilient Girls?
Like national trends, we have seen a decline in the number of females playing soccer. To reverse this locally, Beyond Soccer has:
- Ensured girls’ teams are coached by female mentors and leaders.
- Expanded targeted outreach and recruitment efforts.
- Strengthened collaborations with community partners like Everyone’s A Player and the Mayor’s Health Task Force.
The Resilient Girls Project provides us with data-driven insight into how we can better serve girls—not only within Beyond Soccer, but as a member of the larger girl-serving ecosystem in Essex County.
Our Curriculum
With guidance from CHJS, we developed its first resiliency-focused curriculum, designed for grades 6–12. This 8–10 week programming, called Beyond Resilient Girls, is embedded directly into practices and games.
- Coach Mentor Training: Coach Mentors receive ongoing training and resources to integrate weekly resiliency lessons into the season.
- On-Field Activities: Short, engaging activities are built into practice sessions to reinforce confidence, well-being, and leadership.
- Teamwide Support: The Beyond Soccer staff supports coaches with implementation, reflection, and data collection.
Our first Beyond Resilient Girls course launched in 2024, marking a new step in our mission to keep girls active, engaged, and thriving on and off the field.
#PartnershipsMatter
Yes, this is an #Allin team effort with these unbelievable organizations. Plus, we are learning from the other groups in the cohort, including Girls on the Run, Bellisini Academy, the New American Association of MA, and the NAN Project!
