It’s a #FeelGoodFriday post now that we are back

It’s a #FeelGoodFriday post now that we are back in the schools, partnering up with our friends at the Arlington Middle School to bring sports to students where they are! Next week this effort will include an additional day so that in addition to these 40 7th & 8th graders, 5th & 6th graders will also get a day, and we will grow from there based on interest! There were also some familiar Beyond Soccer faces (current players) in the crowd who were used to help #CoachMentors Chris, Will, and Andrea with some of the drill and skill demonstrations. Overall, it was a great kickoff!

We’ve got the Gr. 3 & 4 boys players getting in some pre-game pushups on Saturday, a circle-up of another boys group with #CoachMentor Chando before anxiously hitting the court, some of the little ones waiting for instructions on Sunday afternoon, the Gr. 4 Jaguars players knocking the ball around, #CoachMentor, Daria in net during the Gr. 6 Bulldogs scrimmage, and Chris’ packed gym of 1st & 2nd graders doing a little dance celebration and quickly getting off the court, for #nextteamup! It’s a great competition that gets kids moving and helps with agility, coordination, and focus, including using both hands and keeping those heads up. #WelcomeWednesday! Just yesterday, we were doing an equipment inventory, noticing right away that our soccer ball supply has gotten really low! Guess what? Today, an unexpected surprise, a large donation of more than 2 dozen soccer balls ⚽️⚽️⚽️ was delivered. #NewBalance balls, of course, by a generous individual who visited our wish list! Kind acts like this make you step back, smile, and be appreciative! Motivated, too, as our players will be working out with some great, flashy, quality soccer balls this weekend. That matters! Quality equipment makes a big difference! ⚽️🏐🧡💙

#TuesdayTip! The Physical Activity Alliance’s latest U.S. Report Card on Physical Activity for youth showed C and D- grades. Also, it shares that the BMI for children during the first 9 months of the pandemic approximately doubled compared to pre-pandemic data. Ugh! 😞That’s why we’re so committed to stepping up again in 2023 to ensure kids are moving and mentored by quality coaches.

Last week, we sponsored 28.75 hours of physical activity programming, including this Gr. 4 girls’ indoor futsal session. Most girls’ age groups/teams are up on Sundays, with 7 hours of dedicated play opportunities --with #'s expected to climb each week through March. #SundayShare! Futsal is now back for Lawrence kids of all ages. Seeing the gyms filling up with kids moving and parents watching from the sidelines is a great feeling in the New Year!

We kicked off yesterday @ the Lawrence YWCA with 10 hours of play, starting with the PreK & K crew and ending with the high school boys at 8 pm. Merrimack Valley Credit Union & technology provider, Kasasa selected Brittanie as the winner of the local “These Are My People” contest after inspirational stories “flooded in" from the greater Merrimack Valley and South Shore on how winning would impact their lives this holiday season.” Brittanie won $2,500 to help support human connections w/her favorite people, her Grade 3 Lioness players she coached after being a former player herself! “The girls...will be able to have a great Christmas party, and I’ll be able to give them all gift cards so they can buy their own equipment.” PS, as the article says "Brittanie was known for her tenacious play but left it on the field and is now a tenacious advocate for youth through sports! #youthsports #community #connections #coachmentors #inspiration 🧡💙⚽️
