#MemoryLaneMonday – Here’s Oriagna Inirio long-time #BeyondSoccer player, Sr. #CoachMentor, PT Administrator & so much more, visiting Director Stephanie’s old stomping grounds @ the @uofmichigan!

Oriagna, who recently relocated with her husband to the Detriot MI area for work, is right next door to where Stephanie, with the help of an incredible crew of #Wolverines ⚽️teammates, further developed her love of soccer and sports (those football, hockey, volleyball, bball swimming in gymnastics teams,…the list goes on, weren’t too shabby 😊). We got pics of Kimothy, their dog, and Oriagna around the Ann Arbor campus, and yes, they even got to a game at the Big House! #WinWin Another--broken record--reminder of sports’ ability to unify and connect people like nothing else! #SaturdaySportsWrapup! It’s a wrap after lots of play in Lawrence, plus lots of league play “Beyond” the City limits with matchups in North Reading, Lynnfield, Dracut, and Hamilton Wenham for the Gr. 4 Jaguars, Gr. 3 Lions, Gr. 8 Strikerz, Gr. 6 Thunder, and Gr. 6 Bulldogs Teams. The Gr. 4 Storm, Gr. 3 Lionesses, Gr. 5 Rebels, and Gr. 6 Thunder Teams didn’t have to travel far, repping at home @ John P. Kane Park.

Unfortunately, no game for the Gr. 8 Wolverines, but guess what? Many Wolverines volunteered as Jr. Coaches for the early morning PreK & K Rec Program, followed by the In-City League for 1st and 2nd graders who got to have their first #SoccerSaturday @Pavillion Field! We test travel team players 4x a year, using PACER, to evaluate if we’re contributing to their healthy fitness zone or cardiovascular health! That testing started this week and will be evaluated thanks to our partnership w/the @newbalance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Boston Children's Hospital and their fit kit team! Improving youth aerobic fitness levels builds strong bones and muscles, controls weight, can reduce anxiety and depression, and lessens the risks of developing heart disease and type 2 diabetes. During most practices, you’ll see an activity like this, "Untie the Knot," that #CoachMentor Melissa led last night with her Gr. 5 & 6 Bulldogs! The girls must keep moving, they can't let go of the pinnies/scrimmage vests or switch arms!! Yikes 😀 Good teammates, make good problem-solvers. #TerrificTuesday - Have we shared enough how much we 🧡 our friends @ the @newbalance Foundation! If this isn’t a sign of how @nbgivesback, we don’t know what else is!! Not only do they provide our teams and in-city leagues with uniforms and t-shirts, plus program funding for lots of great organizations, but they recently reached out asking if we could put extra inventory (sweatpants, zip-ups, sweatshirts, shorts..) from a warehouse across the country to good use! Of course, we can!! Here’s a small smattering of the jampacked soccer activities from yesterday that started at 8:00 am with the FIRST-EVER #LawrenceYouthSoccer game hosted at the Pavillion Field @riverwalkpavilion! It was a memorable experience that also resulted in a hard-fought 1-0 win for long-time Coach-Mentor, Dominic, and his Gr. 8 Strikerz! The day ended at 6 pm after the city league games for the 1st and 2nd graders, all part of our effort to expand play for younger kids to 3 days/week, plus our youngest cohort of Pre-K and Kindergarten soccer players finally took to the field. #youthsports #healthykids #happykids #lawrenceMA #playmatters #facilitiesmatter #play #connection #BeyondFam ⚽️🏐🧡💙

It was an honor to be part of the groundbreaking festivities, including motivating remarks by former Mayor Mike Sullivan, Mayor Brian DePena, Governor Charlie Baker, and of course, Sal Lupoli. It’s a #TerrificTuesday after our girls’ teams took to the new @riverwalkpavilion field for the first time last night. There are no words to describe the excitement felt by staff, coaches, families, and players. It’s a beautiful, innovative field that will be a regular home for Lawrence girls and boys this fall, plus spring, and summer, too, through a wonderful partnership with the Riverwalk Innovation and #LupoliCompanies It is #Beyond motivating for our program and kids. #SundaySportsWrapUp – It was a perfectly hectic & memorable fall ⚽️ kickoff, w/so many moving parts, lots of healthy connections & play. It started with #CoachMentor Dom filling in for teammate & new Coach, Katherine, instructing the Gr. 8 Wolverines & Strikerz in back-to-back games @ Kane Park. Coach Gio, of course, was there too, to instruct! Kind people from Dracut Soccer welcomed newest #CoachMentor & former player Brittanie, with her new Gr. 3 girls Lionesses. Coach Darvin took the field in Salem w/the Gr. 5 Rebels, while the Bulldogs were led again by long-time CoachMentor & former player, Melissa. #BeyondSoccer veteran Will was reunited with many springtime Gr. 6 Thunder players in Gloucester in a competitive bracket, while Coach Chando was home handling his new Gr. 4 Storm Team responsibilities. As most appreciate, the start of any sports season is exciting but marred with challenges related to tricky registration demands, field access issues, and other barriers related to resource inequities. #TeambuildingTuesday with an off-the-field-&-court activity thanks to the wonderfully kind & talented @terbullinosonia. As part of our #SummerNights commitment, up to 20 student-athletes have been learning the art of crocheting in our #Riverwalk program space. Some may wonder how this “loops” into our sports programming. Not only does it get young people out of their comfort zones, but it teaches fine motor skills and promotes creativity, self-expression, and self-discipline. Hey, that reminds us of something…yes, sports!! Thank you for your time and care, Sonia and #team. We’re seeing many student-athletes gain confidence through their newly acquired skills. Some are even crocheting water 💧 bottle carriers!!

It’s a #WinningWednesday when these high school soccer players continue to show up for early morning skill work and fitness at #LHS through the efforts of the Lawrence Sports Alliance. We only planned on running the soccer portion for x3 days but when Soccer Director, Chris asked "who wants to extend the #LSLA2022 experience for a day 4?" despite sore legs and intense heat (esp. Mon & Tues. on turf) all 27 raised their hands and said they were #ALLIN! That’s music to our ears!
